This was knight's/Bill's/Dorky_1's idea. I saw him on msn, and he asked me to post becuz he cant access the site from school comps.
Well, knight proposes that we somehow get a australasian q3 DC ladder going. Im definately keen, And I guess alot more ppl would be too. I dunno how we would run it, gimme some suggestions. Perhaps we could use the dricas ladder which is currently un-used? Perhaps we could just adopt the dricas rules and have some1 else maintain the ladder? Perhaps no1 can be fucd?
Anyways, I'd like to see if ppl are keen for this, and to get any suggestions on rules or how to maintain it. Have a think. PEACE

it's a great idea, but yeh,.. dricas..
that used to be real popular for a while, until it kinda folded upon itself. if you aren't aware of dricas, it's a group that run competitive ladders for a good selection of online dc games. it works on a user-based system, meaning win/losses are reported by the players themselves. the obvious issue here is that not everyone is going to post their losses, and this is why no-one plays dricas anymore.
i'm sure our little aus/asian dc community would be safe from such a large number of the people that are willing to wreck it... but you just can't police this kinda thing. sad but true. =(
for this reason, i think a 24/7 ongoing thing might be better substituted with a monthly, or even bi-monthly tournament. the down side to this is that matches need to be arranged/played, & with the nature of online gaming, it'z virtually impossible to do without some major organisation on a few ppl's behalf.
this points us back to the dricas style tho, as a game could be played whenever ppl happened meet in a server & decided to play.
the comes the question of rules.. dc/pc?, ping vs ping? bb allowed?
i'd be down for this, in fact i think it's needed.., but i'm just a bit discouraged by the amount of difficulty i noticed while they held the 2 personal tourney's at gamefaqs, neither of which were completed. =/
i'm never one to shy away from a challenge tho.. =)

Wassup,
Sy, I get what your saying and agree to some extent, but I think everyone in tFz is level-headed enough to play in a ladder/tourny with nps. Its the type of players who quit when losing (any1 come to mind?) you dont want playing in something like this as they will just stuff every1 around.
Ed, you raise some good points. A tournament would probably be easier to run, as u wouldnt need to constantly update rank. I dont mind whether we would play in a tournament or ladder, both would spice up Quaking.
"dc/pc?, ping vs ping? bb allowed?" Some1 suggested that we have different sectors, ie, bb vs bb and dial up vs dial up. But there arent enough BB'rs for them to have a good competetition, hmm theres ED, Cham, Spine, Bonesaw soon? bannerboy? Badmutha? Res? Gooki?...which still only leaves 3 who would likely play. So, I think it would be best to put every1 in the same pool, using handicaps for ping and hardware. But what are fair handicaps? :/
Yo, remember bannerboy saying he would make a web-page for the dc servers? Maybe we could get him to help run a tournament or ladder, and have him keep the results on his page? Perhaps we could have bi-monthly msv tournaments?
Keep thinking about it. PEACE

OMG, I'm a turbo poster!,
Just to add to the diss, I can put a stat generator on my server that will report player stats in HTML after every game (from games.log). Tells you EXACTLY how good u r (even if you like to bail out in a losing situation).
Keeps track of: kills, deaths, self/deaths, skill, time spent, No of maps, frags per hour and lots more.
What u think?
CYA.

hah! the stragallerz. don't go givin anyone ideas now sy - sGz =T
911, i agree nug, it'z needed.. & now is a perfect time to have such a comp. i saw some guy on gf's use a good idea in that if a dc/dial-up vs pc/dial-up, the dc'er would have choice of map. if dial-up vs BB, the bb would handi to 85 (my idea).
so one way could be...
*knockout tournament, best of 3 games : winner advances, loser eliminated.
*dc/dial-up vs dc/dial-up : map choice?
*dc/dial-up vs pc/dial-up : dc chooses map
*dc/dial-up vs pc/bb : dc chooses map + *pc sets handi to 85.
dc/bb : not applicable.
(*also, neither myself or tscab would be able to play in our own server.)
i'm down for server logging also if i can figure out how osp does it. that'z 2 dedicated server's... letz keep this thing rolling. =)

Well-
It doesn?t seem like anyone is 2 concerned about the possibility of conflict, so lets start doing it
1st up we NEED sum1 to take the role of leading this huge Oz / Nz tournament. I vote Bill, as this was his idea. The role should include keeping track and documenting advances and eliminations, possibly e-mailing players to notify them of the time of tournament etc.
2nd we put get dates to this thing- and maybe we should think of not letting it drag out to long- swift and punctual
3rd we need a list of definite players. I?ll bet all of us will be in with bells on, but we should approach cBt, phsycoEA, Jty, BM, Res Gookie and the otherz and get YES / NO answers ASAP.
The person/s who takes the lead in organizing this tournament has do a bit of paper work like: which players will be fighting & on what date, and what arena that event will take place. And as ed has mentioned the DC vs PC and Dail-up vs BB thing should all be documented. Spine has said his server can generate some phat statistics- which would be really helpful.
Bottom line this is a HUGE task to organize, but if we put our heads together it should be a mad excuse to have a wild fRAG sesh
In retail management I headed up some large corporate projects, so I can lend a lil hand in organization. 1 thing I drummed into my staff?s head while taking up these jobs was a monumental sense of ?URGENCY? that way the ball is always moving. And with large projects like new shop fit-outs and total re-merchandising was ?1 step at a time?
Our 1st step being to generate a list of definite players, and some1 (bill perhaps
to take the lead in organisation and documentation.
On the urgency side- maybe we should hold a tFz meeting and iron out the ?supervisor? of this tournament, plus other issues. Sunday is the day we have held a meeting in the past, is everyone keen for this Sunday? Post ASAP so we can send out mail to the nugz of the time of the meeting.
Peace.
